The first <\/span>step is the choice of the surveillance cameras, that is, those that will be the most adequate according to your needs and your budget. It is easy to get lost in the selection of materials. There are a multitude of surveillance cameras. Several aspects are to be preferred and the price varies according to several factors such as the type of camera, the resolution of the image in megapixel (image quality), the night vision (distance and Colorvu), the optical zoom (vari-focal), the PTZ (pan tilt zoom), the size of the lens, the detection of car plates and faces and several other characteristics. CAT5e or CAT6 network cabling should also be determined when selecting hardware. <\/p>\n

The second <\/span>is the choice of equipment for the connection of the cameras. There is a wide range of recorder commonly called NVR or Network Video Recorder. NVRs are used for connecting cameras and for archiving video and audio recordings. They are sometimes limited by the number of cameras that can be connected, from 4 to 256 ports. Some NVR models have their own internal network that includes power (POE) from the system’s built-in Ethernet network ports. The POE power supply allows to provide electricity to the cameras necessary for its operation. The network cables that interconnect the cameras to the system must however respect a maximum distance to power the cameras. Some NVRs do not have an Ethernet port and must be integrated into a computer network and connected to network switches separately.<\/p>\n

In the 3rd<\/span>step<\/span>, the selection of the location of the cameras for the installation. The goal is to get the best coverage possible, so it is imperative to have chosen the right cameras and the right media models beforehand. The angles, height, width of the area to be covered and distance are crucial points to determine when selecting the location. Having the right tools in hand is just as important for a quick and efficient installation.<\/p>\n

The last step, <\/span>the configuration of the NVR and network settings. There are a multitude of features that can be configured in an NVR. The most common ones are user management, motion detection zones, recording schedules, email and phone alerts, online viewing and much more.<\/p>\n

It is possible to set up multiple user accounts on the NVR to allow certain people to access the system by limiting them to a few features such as viewing images and other users to viewing and configuring the system.<\/p>\n
